"Planets"
| In keeping with the current astronomical theme,
I would like to introduce “Planets,” a new three dimensional
kinetic sculpture. Planets is a simple
and fun-to-build kinetic sculpture with lots of 3D movement.
I think I spent more time standing around watching Planets spin and gyrate than I did actually building it. Watch the video below and you'll see what I mean. |
Planets was a collaborative effort. My artist friend, Forrest Burnett, and I worked together on this sculpture to bring it into being. You can see Forrest’s stunning interpretation in the photo below. Planets’ frame is about 23” tall and the largest ring is a little over 16” in diameter. Because of their size; the frame, all of the rings, and the wheels are also being made available in electronic form in DXF format. Scientific Note to Educators: Planets was based on, and is an exact scale replica of the solar system…which one I do not know - but there must be one out there like it. So once we discover that particular solar system, Planets will be a great astronomical learning tool for the children of that system. |
