Samurai Kinetic Sculpture

This is Samurai, the most unique kinetic sculpture I have created to date. It is a striking piece of visual art even as a still-life, but in motion there's nothing else quite like it. It stops and starts and opens and closes as it circles around the central geared base, all the time putting on a spectacular and mesmerizing visual display.

Below is a YouTube video of Samurai in motion:

If you are unable to see the video player above, here is the link to the video on YouTube:  Samurai on YouTube

The movements of Samurai are powered by a motor driving four unusual pinions. Our videos are of the wall mounted version, however a tabletop version is also described in the plans.

Many unique variations can be incorporated into this sculpture. Compare this blonde sculpture to the brunette above and notice how the arms can be assembled differently to give two completely different looking sculptures. The Samurai display arms open to give a sculpture that is a little more than 24" (61cm) in diameter.

The video below shows the dynamic lengths to which the basic Samurai can be taken.  Forrest has set his basic Samurai sculpture into a parabolic mirror to create amazing shadows and reflections. He also incorporated acrylic faux flames, and lit it all with LED's connected to strobed control switches for a "Jawdropping" display!

All of the amazing Samurai sculptures shown on this page were built by Forrest Burnett.  Many thanks to Forrest for his test builds, valuable input, engineering skills, creativity, and dogged determination.
